New Re-Thinking Digital Seminar at UC Davis - Graduate School of Management.

Last week, together with Kay Peters, we completed the inaugural edition of the new Re-Thinking Digital seminar at University of California, Davis - Graduate School of Management.

What is it about?

DigitalChange somehow got stuck over the years. We've poured billions into cloud infrastructure, applications, and every digital trend that came along. And of course, at a micro level, many things have improved. But at the macro level, we have little to show for all that money.

Do you recall the 1980s SolowParadox? It's back!

At the same time, in today's VUCA world, everything is changing at such a rapid pace that it’s becoming more and more difficult to keep up. The old saying, "Never change a running system," might still hold some truth. But what do we do when the system itself is changing dramatically?

So, we urgently need fresh, radical ideas. But where can we find them when everyone is doing more or less the same, following the same trends?

That's the question the Re-Thinking Digital Seminar is trying to answer - by shifting the perspective: We examine these issues through the lens of Disruptive China, exploring Chinese approaches to these challenges, and looking for lessons we can apply to our work here.

During the seminar, students analyzed case studies such as PDD / Temu, SHEIN and PingAn. We discussed the results and identified a range of strategies that could be used in Western markets to address current challenges.

The first edition was already quite productive and hopefully it's just the beginning of many more to come.

Does this topic sound interesting? Then join us at the Tomorrow Academy, Vienna, for our monthly "Re-Thinking Digital / China" remote workshop. There, we cover the same issues in a concise format, all in one morning (German only)…
